He's Not a Dentist

All done with the Light numbers (excepting Rock, Roll, and Blues I guess...), moving on to those pesky Wily numbers!

Oh Metal Man... probably one of the strangest robot masters of all. Weak to his own Metal Blade, which honestly isn't surprising considering its practically the best weapon in the game. Although his color scheme, red, yellow, black, isn't unusual at all, I still feel that his design is somewhat unorthodox. His little kneepad balls are a little strange, as is the weird spot of blue around his chest crystal. His pelvic armor tends to be inconsistent from appearance to appearance, so I omitted it entirely.

Although I've always been fond of Metal Man, he was never the subject of my fascination, not like Cut Man, Guts Man, and Elec Man. I never attempted custom sprites of the guy, and never really pondered him at all. I just thought he was neat.

It's interesting to note, though, that my first (and realistically only) bit of success as an online artist was connected with Metal Man. In 09 I drew a brief comic detailing Mega Man's encounter with Metal Man, and was lucky enough to have it included in that year's Life Meter, a popular comic anthology themed around games. Since then, that comic has been one of my most popular works on DA.

Ultimately, I think of Metal as a somewhat tragic figure. Unlike the Light numbers of Mega Man 1, the Wily numbers were really only built with combat in mind. They live exclusively for the moment in which they will either kill Rock or die. Poor guys.
