Deadly Towers: You Have No Faith in this Sword by jmatchead Deadly Towers: You Have No Faith in this Sword by jmatchead
A little fanart I did of the insanely convoluted NES action RPG, Deadly Towers. Though much maligned, I actually REALLY enjoyed Deadly Towers once I wrapped my head around it's structure, which is as much like an 8-bit Dark Souls as I think was ever done on the NES.

For all it's flaws, Deadly Towers brings alot to the table for such an early game including a huge game world that scales the difficulty to match your progress, totally nonlinear structure that lets you challenge the game's seven towers in any order, giant bosses with bizarre designs, RPG style equipment and upgrades, and secrets out the ass.

Deadly Towers was developed by the now defunct Lenar, who later refined their action rpg formula with the much more streamlined Gunman's Proof, which I've talked about before. Check out my Gunman's Proof piece as well!

This is great! And I have said (even though nobody believed me) that ths game was Dark Souls before there was a Dark Souls. Except Dark Souls was easier because you don't have to enter a GIGANTIC password.

This is a very great to see a deadly towers artwork! One of the most underrated games of the late 80s:-)

Yea, definitely under appreciated! It was really ambitious for it's time!

It's rare to find artwork this game considering the game was one the most confusing and hardest games to have ever exist.

Proud to say that through a looooong, concerted effort between my brother and I, we ACTUALLY beat it.

Congrats:-) I only seen videos of people cheating just to beat the game and it really disappoints me that this game had a good story-line to it, but it was very badly coordinated in terms of confusing game design and getting raped in seconds from the monsters.

Yeah, at the start of the game literally nothing makes sense, and enemies kill you almost instantly. The difficulty curve is literally a wall.

I had to read a bit about how the game's set up worked (the secret dungeons and shops, mostly), but once I found my first few pieces of equipment, things settled down into actual playability.
